History

“We can truthfully say a musical experience is a unique experience. Nothing can take it’s place." - Stephen E. Busch. The Stephen E. Busch Music Education Scholarship honors Dr. Stephen E. Busch, Director of Music Education (choral and general music) and Graduate Music Programs, which he was a driving force in establishing, at Colorado State University from 1962-1997. In 1975 he established the Music Therapy Program offering a Bachelor of Music Therapy. He introduced the art of handbell ringing to CSU, forming and directing the University's first handbell choir. Stephen is remembered by family, friends, and colleagues for his warmth and humor, a twinkle in his eye, and a smile that seemed to never leave his face. With deep love, Stephen's wife of 54 years, JoAnne, and his two daughters Gwynne Cleveland and Carol Busch established the Stephen E. Busch Music Education Scholarship in 2013 to benefit CSU Choral and instrumental music education students who value service to community - in all aspects of their lives. The purpose of this scholarship is to specifically benefit students majoring in music education in the Department of Music, Theatre, and Dance within the College of Liberal Arts at Colorado State University.
