History

This scholarship was established for music students in recognition of Roberta Abbett's 28-year teaching career in music programs in Weld County. She graduated from Fort Collins High School in 1937 and studied music at Colorado State University, receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in music in 1941. Clyde Abbett graduated from Platteville High School in 1940 and worked at his father's hatchery until he began farming in 1944. Roberta began her music teaching career in Platteville and met Clyde shortly afterward. Clyde and Roberta were married on New Year's Eve 1944. In 1947 they moved to the Centennial Farm founded by Clyde's great-grandfather George Leis, and Clyde began his farming career. Roberta began teaching music in Fort Lupton in 1955, where she continued teaching for 25 years. The couple has three children, Kathleen, Marilyn and Lowell. Both daughters are graduates of Colorado State University.
