1) Junior who has shown excellence in scholarship and evidence of high potential for future accomplishment in English, Foreign Languages, Philosophy, Speech, Technical Journalism, or Theatre. The award is made for the senior year.
History
Established in 1953, this endowed scholarship honors Dr. Alfred Westfall, a faculty member from 1913-1953 and Chair of the Department of English from 1926-1953. The award is made possible by contributions from friends, faculty, staff, alumni and the Westfall family, who recognize the importance of scholarships in encouraging students to aim for excellence. The generous gifts from individual members of these various groups allow us to provide financial support for students who have demonstrated superior achievements or skills, thereby encouraging their continued efforts and the overall atmosphere of vigorous research and creativity.
