Bio

Susan Crabtree, who currently teaches scenic design at CSU has co-authored Scenic Art for the Theatre: History, Tools and Techniques with Peter Beudert. She has also taught scenic design, scenic painting, and related courses at the University of Michigan, University of Colorado, and Brandies University. She has served as scenic designer for the National Theatre Conservatory at the Denver Center Theatre Company, Colorado Shakespeare Festival, Curious Theatre, Denver University, Bas Bleu of Fort Collins, University of Colorado, University of Michigan, Kenmark Inc, and Colorado State University. Her
Professional experience includes working as a charge painter or scenic artist for The Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera, The Indiana Repertory Company, The Kansas City Starlight Opera, and The Denver Center Theatre Company, as well as the presentation of several painting workshops across the U.S.A and in Canada. Currently enrolled in the Ph.D. program in the Department and Dance at the University of Colorado her focal area of research is the nineteenth century theatrical scenic painting history and techniques. She is the proprietor of Crabtree Scenic and Specialty Painting, a busy production based paint shop that specializes in backdrop design and scenic art.
