I received my PhD in Writing Studies from the University of Illinois in 2008 and am currently an Assistant Professor of English at Colorado State University. My academic interests are undergraduate writing instruction, autoethnography, graduate education, new media, web design, and feminist research methods.
I have been a writing teacher for 15 years, and in that time have crafted an approach to teaching that seeks to empower students to use writing to enact change in the world while at the same time preparing them to use writing to navigate the current rhetorical situations they will find in the workplace and the polis.
My passion for graduate education began during my own time as a PhD student when I saw how the current system, more often than not, hindered rather than fostered intellectual development.
When I am not working, I spend my time gardening, cooking, and enjoying life with my husband Richard, our children Lucia and Vincent.
