Background in newspaper reporting, writing, editing. Degrees from University of Iowa, Ball State University and University of Wisconsin-Madison. Persuasion research on traditional rhetorical and narrative content. Political communication research on presidential elections, social group communication, active audiences. Health communication research on adolescent and young adult health behaviors, information seeking, information processing. Also, research on news reporting and news content, generally related to politics and health. Interdisciplinary teaching and research on women, gender and ethnic studies.
