Dr. Tom Dunn has been awarded the College of Liberal Arts Excellence in Teaching Award for Assistant Professors. Dunn is assistant professor of rhetorical studies and director of the basic public speaking course at Colorado State University.
“In his two and half years at CSU he has already become an extraordinary teacher,” says Greg Dickinson, chair of the Department of Communication Studies.
As Basic Course Director overseeing the department’s large public speaking program, Dunn is the primary teacher of each new cohort of graduate teaching assistants (GTAs) that in turn teach SPCM 200.
“Dr. Dunn’s ability to guide his students through the inevitable bumps and bruises of the first years of teaching helps the GTAs not only survive the first semester but thrive,” Dickinson says.
Dunn also teaches classes in rhetoric, public address, and civic engagement, and co-teaches graduate coursework in communication pedagogy. He most recently read graduate’s names at the College of Liberal Art’s fall commencement on Saturday, December 20.
